If you hit and get another card that takes your total over 21, you automatically lose (a bust). If you hit and get another card that brings your total below 21, then you must continue hitting until either you go over again or reach 21. If you stand, then your turn ends and the next player takes their turn. The same rules apply to the dealer – they must hit if their total is below 17, but can stand on any total of 17 or more.
The aim of the game is to amass more points than the dealer without going over 21. In order words, if your total is closer to 21 than the dealer's total then you win; if not then you lose. Points can be accumulated in several ways: by getting a natural blackjack; by scoring more points than the dealer with 2 or more cards; or by taking advantage of certain special situations called "insurance" and "pair splitting" which we will explain later on.
The round ends when both players have either stood or busted, and whoever has scored the most points wins! Let's take a look at an example:
Player 1: 4 4 Dealer: 7
In this example, Player 1 has a score of 18 while Dealer has a score of 14. Player 1 therefore wins since their total is closer to 21 than Dealer'stotal!
